1960 Topps Baseball
#250 Stan Musial

This 1960 Topps issue pictures iconic Cardinals Hall-of-Famer Stan Musial. This was the third year that Topps featured a dedicated card of Musial, and their first set of the now standard 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" sizing to feature a horizontal format.

In his 19th season as a Cardinal, Musial was in the twilight of his career in 1960. In spite of speculation that he would retire the following year (in fact, he did not retire until 1964), Musial managed a very respectable .275 batting average and .486 slugging average in 116 game appearances in 1960. He was also named to the NL All Star team for the 17th consecutive season.

This example is an uncirculated gem. It is very well-centered right-to-left, and near perfectly centered top-to-bottom. The surface quality is essentially flawless, with smooth clean edges, sharp untouched corners, and a pristine interior. The borders are unabraded and brilliant white. Musial's image is crystal-clear and sharply focused, and the background is free from spots or blemishes. The coloration is exceptionally bright and bold. And lastly, the front of the card is finished by an unbroken coating of satiny gloss. Graded MINT 9 by PSA, there are no finer examples out of the 2,479 specimens submitted.
