1955 Red Man Tobacco
#7 Willie Mays
With Tab

This issue featuring Giants Hall-of-Fame centerfielder Willie Mays is one of 50 numbered cards (25 players from each league) within the 1955 Red Man set. Distributed within pouches of Red Man chewing tobacco, these cards feature very attractive colorized player artwork and biographical information on the fronts, and a promotional redemption offer on the backs. The 1955 series was the final of four sets issued by Red Man from 1952 - 1955. This example comes with the redeemable coupon tab at the bottom of the card intact.

In 1955, his fourth season, Mays was named to the National League All Star team for the second time, led the league with 51 home runs (one of two seasons in which he hit over 50 round trippers), and finished first in slugging percentage and total bases. The Giants finished in third place that year, trailing behind the Dodgers and the Braves.

This example features smooth pristine edges, a clean and unblemished interior surface area, and just a hint of frictional corner wear. The lettering, Mays' image, and the background artwork on the front of the card are bold and colorful, all topped with an incredibly vibrant glossy finish. And the red text on the back of the card is clearly defined and sharply impressed.
