1939 Play Ball
#26 Joe DiMaggio

This issue featuring Yankees Hall-of-Fame icon Joe DiMaggio is one of 161 cards within the 1939 Play Ball set. Produced by Gum Inc. of Philadelphia, PA, this was from the first of their three "Play Ball" baseball card sets, and was the second standard American issue to feature DiMaggio in the big leagues.

Joe DiMaggio enjoyed a legendary 13-year Hall-of-Fame career (1935-1942 and 1946-1951), all with the New York Yankees. He was a three-time AL MVP Award winner (1939, 1941 and 1947), a nine-time World Series champion, and he was named to 13 All Star teams - every year of his career. His 56-game hitting streak in 1941 is one of major league baseball's most celebrated records.

This example has been graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. It is centered virtually perfect top-bottom, and 60-40 right-left. The edges are smooth and clean, all four corners are squared-up with the upper left showing just a minor crimp, and the interior surface quality is superb. The printing is absolutely outstanding as DiMaggio's image is crystal-clear, the black background coloration is deep and bold, and there is a complete absence of lines, smudges or blemishes. Excellent overall visual appeal.
