1935 Diamond Stars
#54 Hank Greenberg
PSA NM-MT+ 8.5

This issue featuring Hall-of-Fame slugger Hank Greenberg is one of 108 numbered cards within the classic Diamond Stars set. Distributed by the National Chicle Co. of Cambridge, MA, from 1934-1936, this is one of the most collectible of all the Depression-era gum card issues. The offered example is the correctly spelled “Greenberg” variety issue, and dates to 1935.

Hank Greenberg was one of the premier power-hitters of his generation. During his 13-year career (1930, 1933-1947) he led the American League in home runs and RBI’s four times each. His total of 58 home runs in 1938 is tied for fourth highest in the pre-steroids era. Greenberg was the American League’s MVP Award winner twice, was a two-time World Series champion with the Tigers, and was named to five All Star teams.

The offered example has been certified as NM-MT+ 8.5 by PSA. It is very well-centered with outstanding corner quality, light vintage-white borders, bold colorful artwork, and clean print. Greenberg’s image is clear and unblemished. And the card-back features sharply impressed fern-green lettering and text.
