1934 Goudey
#37 Lou Gehrig

Featuring Yankees Hall-of-Fame legend Lou Gehrig, this is the key card within the classic 96-issue 1934 Goudey set. Produced and distributed during the depths of the Great Depression, this very popular and widely collected set features two separate cards picturing Gehrig. With a beautiful portrait image of Gehrig set against a stunning yellow background, this is one of the most attractive and eagerly sought-after Lou Gehrig issues.

Considered by many to be the greatest first baseman of all-time, Lou Gehrig enjoyed a spectacular 17-year career (1923-1939), all with the New York Yankees. He was named to each of the first seven All Star teams, was a six-time World Series champion, a two-time American League MVP Award winner, and winner of the Triple Crown Award in 1934. Gehrig holds claim to three of the top six single season RBI totals. And, perhaps most famously, from 1925-1939 Gehrig played in 2,130 consecutive games, a major league record for endurance that stood for 56 years until Cal Ripken Jr. broke it in 1995.

The offered example has been certified as NM/MT 88 by SGC. It features near perfect centering, light vintage-white borders, outstanding corner quality, no surface or print imperfections, and a crystal-clear image of Gehrig. The card-front’s background is a deep lemon-yellow color, while the legend strip at the bottom is a bold navy-blue color. The card-back features sharply impressed hunter-green text. Superb overall eye-appeal.
