1933 George C. Miller
Type One
Paul Waner
PSA EX+ 5.5

This issue featuring Pirates Hall-of-Famer Paul Waner is one of 32 unnumbered cards within the very scarce R300 set. Issued with pieces of toffee in 1933 by George C. Miller & Co. of Boston, Massachusetts, these cards received very limited regional distribution. Two distinct varieties of R300's were printed: Type 1 cards feature very bright coloration on the card-front, while Type 2 cards feature a softer coloration. Additionally, there are numerous small lettering differences on the backs of the two varieties. All cards feature a special mail-in redemption offer on the reverse, and many are found today with one of two forms of cancellation as a result of having been submitted back to the publisher. The offered card is the Type 1 variety, and is uncancelled.

Paul Waner enjoyed an outstanding 20-year career (1926-1945). He won three batting titles, accumulated 3,152 hits, was named to four All Star teams, and won the National League MVP Award in 1927 (and was runner-up to Dizzy Dean in 1934). After finishing with eight 200+ hit seasons and a lifetime batting average of .333, Waner was elected to the Hall-of-Fame in 1952.

This example has superb eye-appeal. It is nicely centered with milky-white borders and a bright vibrantly colored image of Waner set against an attractive landscape background. The print quality is exceptional for an R300, with no major spotting, lines or sprays. The corners exhibit just light even wear, while the card-front interior surface is free from any noticeable impairments. Finally, the black printing on the back is sharp, bold, and strongly impressed.
