1912 T207 Recruit Brown Background
Frank Chance

Cubs Hall-of-Fame legend Frank Chance is one of 200 different players featured in the T207 set. Produced in 1912 by the American Tobacco Co., this example was distributed within packages of Recruit Little Cigars from Factory No. 606. In addition to the 200 cards in the basic set, there are at least six additional known variations. T207's were published with one of six different sponsor ad-backs. Long known as the "Brown Background" set, these cards feature a distinctive solid chocolate-brown background, gray borders, and a glossy finish on the card-front. The back includes a player biography, brand advertising, and factory number.

Frank Chance enjoyed a superb 18-year career (1898-1914 and 1923) as both a player and manager. He led the Cubs to National League championships in 1906, 1907, 1908 and 1910, and World Series championships in 1907 and 1908. Perhaps his most enduring legacy is being the first baseman for the iconic double-play combination of Tinker to Evers to Chance.

This example has been graded NM 7 by PSA. It is very well-centered for the issue. Corner quality is commensurate with the grade, borders are an attractive silver-gray tone, and the card-front is free from any marks or blemishes. Chance's image is sharp and finely detailed, while the background is a rich chocolate-brown coloration. Superb eye-appeal for the issue. There is just one finer PSA certified copy.
