Baker Gets His Man

This issue featuring side panels of Hall-of-Famers Eddie Collins and Frank "Home Run" Baker, and a middle panel captioned "Baker Gets His Man," is one of 132 unnumbered cards within the T202 set. Distributed in 1912 within packages of Hassan cigarettes, the fronts of these tri-fold cards feature a black and white photo image of a baseball action scene on the middle panel, and a colored artwork of a player on each side panel. The backs feature descriptive write-ups and advertising. There are 76 different middle panels, mixed and matched with 99 different side panel pairings, to form a total of 132 different combinations. Extremely popular with collectors, this is one of the most imaginative and attractive issues ever produced.

Eddie Collins and Frank "Home Run" Baker were both members of the Philadelphia A's legendary "$100,000" infield, and together won World Series championships in 1910, 1911 and 1913. Collins enjoyed an outstanding 25-year career (1906 - 1930), finishing with a lifetime batting average of .333 and a total of 3,314 hits. During Baker's 13-year career (1908 - 1922), he led the league in home runs from 1911 - 1914, and hit over .300 in six different seasons.

This example has been graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. All four corners are pinpoint-sharp, the borders are an attractive creamy-white color, and the two side-panel folds are crisp and clean. The middle panel photo-image is clearly registered, while the side panel player artworks are both finely detailed and vividly colored. The back is exceptionally clean, with no staining or blemishes present. Overall, this piece has superb visual appeal. This is one of just three examples graded NM-MT 8 by PSA, with none finer.
