1911 T201 Mecca Double Folder
Walter Johnson/Charles Street
PSA NM-MT+ 8.5

This issue featuring Senators Hall-of-Fame pitcher Walter Johnson and catcher Charles Street is one of 50 unnumbered cards within the T201 set. Distributed in 1911 inside packages of Mecca cigarettes, each card pictures two players from the same club. Known as "Double Folders," these cards feature an innovative fold-over design, and were one of the first issues to list player statistics on the backs of the cards.

The primary player featured is Walter Johnson. Johnson was perhaps the greatest pitcher in the history of baseball. He enjoyed an absolutely dominant 21-year career (1907-1927), all with the Washington Senators. He was a 12-time American League strikeout champion, had 11 seasons with a sub-.200 ERA, was a two-time MVP Award winner, and was the ace of the 1924 World Series championship team. Johnson still remains the all-time career leader in shutouts (110), second in career wins (417), and is a member of the 3,000 strikeout club.

This example has outstanding surface quality, with unabraded edges, just a hint of frictional wear on the two bottom corners, and a virtually pristine interior. Johnson's image quality is boldly printed with no marks or blemishes. The pastel background artwork is clear and colorful. Lastly, the printing on the back is crisp and well defined. This is one of three examples graded NM-MT+ 8.5 by PSA, with none finer.
